West to the Ohio Territory

After a disaster along the Ohio River robs him of his father's life and company, twelve-year-old Joel Libben decides to continue westward toward the plot of land his father had bought and which was to have become their new home. On his journey, he finds that his determination and courage are severely tested. Can he survive in the wilderness alone? Can he make a home in the savage land that others have deserted, or will he, too, have to abandon his plans? And why do so many strange objects, many of which he desperately needs, appear on his doorstep overnight? Who can be leaving such valuable gifts?
