Middle East meets West when David Powell is drawn into investigating the death of his friend, BBC journalist Robin Fitch. After the funeral, Fitch's sister gives Powell a copy of her brother's unpublished novel, The Camels of the Qur'an to publish. Not knowing what the books means, Powell talks to as many of Fitch's old friends to understand what is going on. He learns that Fitch has smuggled a young woman out of Syria, but doesn't know where she is now. Powell also becomes intrigued with the myth that there are no camels in the Qur'an and sets out to determine if it's true or false, and if false, how the myth arose.
