In Weimar, Germany in 1941, Karin Landesman and her family are taken from their home and sent to the Buchenwald concentration camp. She survives four years of internment, befriended by a young German soldier. The American Army frees the camp in April of 1945, but her friend disappears under strange circumstances. Karin comes to America to start a new life. The two meet again twenty years later, both in need of closure so they can get on with their liives.
