The in-vitro maturation (IVM) and subsequent fertilization (IVF) of oocytes claimed to be a new method of embryo transfer that could reduce the cost of embryos by about 90 per cent, by bypassing the critical process of superovulation. It can be evidently practiced in developing countries like India. This book, a part of Ph. D. Thesis submitted to Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chennai, India explored the suitable method for in-vitro maturation of bovine follicular oocytes with a clear basis of understanding folliculogenesis in realtion to climate and stage of the oestrus cycle. The study also suggested the techniques for large scale oocyte collection and suitable medium for IVM of buffalo follicular oocytes. A simple technique was identified to assess the nuclear maturation of in-vitro cultured oocytes. These above mentioned factors make this book very much useful to the embroyo biotechnologists and researchers.
