Presents 120 works from an extraordinary archive of work by an anonymous artist. This title is composed of black-and-white polaroids showing headshots and close-ups of actresses taken from the television screen beginning in the late 1960s.
Marc Notes: This entire body of work was found in New York in the Spring of 2012 by the artist Jason Brinkerhoff... the body of work is comprised of approximately 950 Polaroids in total. The name Type 42 refers to the film stock used in this anonymous body of work. It is a Polaroid film that came on the market in 1955 and was discontinued in 1992. -- Colophon.
Contributor Bio: Sherman, Cindy Cindy Sherman was born in 1954. She began her "Film Stills" series at the age of 23, gaining early recognition, and has followed it with remarkable experiments in color photography. Her art has won her wide recognition and praise, and been collected and exhibited by major museums throughout the world since 1980--key early shows included a first survey at the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, in 1982 and a retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1987. Sherman is the recipient of a MacArthur Foundation "genius" award, a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship, and the Guild Hall Academy of the Arts Lifetime Achievement Award for Visual Arts.
