Ancient settlements in Oman are frequently found where crops can be cultivated with groundwater distributed to fields by gravity flow. The allocation of water from irrigation using this method traditionally depended on the use of the sun and stars to track the passage of time, a method which in the modern age is fast disappearing, and which this study aims to document.
