The life story of an Ethiopian Christian who raises his family in the late twentieth century, A Man With Integrity follows the life of Berhanu Ademe as told by his daughter, Haymanot. The story is told in the background of the unexpected death of the author's father in 2000. It is the towering character of her dad, which pervades the book and holds the book together. It is the memory of her dad, which she describes as an indomitable person and devoted father that made Haymanot to research about his life and write this book. The book is part a historical account of a family saga, and parts a therapeutic undertaking to heal a grief-stricken heart. The book opens with the news, which brought shock and deep grief to the author, and we read more about her grief after she traveled back to Ethiopia to be with the rest of her family for the official mourning period. But to say that this book is about grief and sorrow would be to miss the importance of the book. The author soon moves on from the pain her grief and sense of nostalgia, to tell the reader about the life and times of her father.
