The descendants of Seth and John Yates documents for the first time the families ofthese two men using all extant records that could be located during an exhaustivesearch of early New England records. Seth's children and grandchildren movedbetween Newport and Providence during the American Revolution and mostof the descendants through to the early twentieth century were still foundin New England except for his grandson Jonathan whose children moved toMichigan and Wisconsin and contained some very prominent individuals oftheir time. The daughters married into the Carder, Melvill, Burr, Cahoone, Cranston, Hammett, and other prominent Newport and Providence families. John's line moved first to Uxbridge, Massachusetts, and within two moregenerations had spread to New York State, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Iowa. These families were pioneers of their times, fought inthe American Revolution, the Civil War, and participated in public affairs. One of John's daughters married Shem Drown and his children have beendocumented with never before found records. His grandsons Amariah andBarzillai were pioneers in Genesee and Tioga counties, New York, leavingnumerous descendants. John's granddaughter Elizabeth married BenjaminRead and had a child who married her cousin, identified here for the first time.
