Nadukwe Amenaci has escaped Nuiinia Prime. Still a hunted fugitive on the run from Nuiinian justice, he is determined to comb the stars in search of Colonel Sifonemus Meo and continue his quest against the villainous Shroud of Shadows secret order. But before Nadukwe can find the lost military hero and rout the ancient society obsessed with destroying Nuiin civilization, he must endure the sanctimonious judgment of Supreme Inquisitor Tomosis Torqemada and his resolve to strike a crippling blow to the schemes of the Shroud. Unwillingly conscripted by Torqemada to infiltrate a powerful criminal organization in league with the Shroud, Nadukwe is forced use his innate gifts of mimicry to take on the odious personality of one of Torqemada's own, a long dead Inquisitor whose memories, skills, and hardened taste for killing Nadukwe must possess if he is to accomplish the mission and escape alive. The fate of the cosmos hangs in the balance as the Shroud of Shadows pushes forward to dominate all the species of the Galaxy of Light. But hope remains while a few still stand in the gap between life and the abyss. Nadukwe Amenaci has chosen his side. Now he must choose his means.
