Robert Louis Stevenson at Hyeres

Robert Louis Stevenson lived in Hyères from February 1883 until June 1884. Through his letters written at the time to family and friends, the precious testimonies of his wife and stepson, and the references to his work, we understand why the time spent in the Mediterranean resort became so special to the author. "I was only happy once: that was at Hyères" Robert Louis Stevenson wrote this in 1891, in a letter to his friend Sidney Colvin from his last abode in Samoa, in the Pacific.
