Pacem and Eleutheria have been enemies for more than a generation. Tensions began over ideals. Pacem was the home of a beloved monarchy, while Eleutheria had overthrown their own, deeming them tyrants. They saw Pacemians as complacent, blind, and arrogant, allowing tyrannical pigs to walk all over them, while Eleutherians were seen as cynical, trustless vampires. War erupts when Pacemians illegally cross the border and are held by Eleutherian soldiers, serving only to deepen their hatred for one another. While both countries negotiated the end of the war, and there was no clear winner, tensions ran deep. It is 1253 and the Pacemian monarchs, the D'Arcy line, have decided they no longer want to feud with Eleutheria. They arrive in Pileum and announce that they would like to have an alliance with Eleutheria, and that they believe the conflict will do nothing to serve the two nations. Eleutheria's Parliament is stunned, but they too are wearied of the conflict and agree. However, in order for the alliance to be taken seriously be all, one of the sons of an Eleutherian Parliament member would have to marry the Prince of Pacem. Only one was deemed eligible: Caelan Lucien, son of two members of Eleutheria's Parliament. But like any Eleutherian, Caelan harbored a deep hatred and distrust for monarchs, and nor was he present for the meeting that decided his fate. While he would not be forced to marry the Prince, the two countries could not come to trust one another without their union. The news reaches the underground, and the creatures inhabiting the cesspool underneath civilization begin to make their discontent known. They were infamous for slaughtering entire cities just for fun, and whispers began that the two countries would be next.
