Step By Step Guide on Successful Snail farming

The process of farming or raising snails is scientifically referred to as Heliciculture. Snails are small soft animals, usually with a hard round shell on their back which move very slowly. They are of different types and origins. For instance, there are some which are of African origin. They include Archachatina marginata, Achatina achatina, Achatina fulica, Limicolaria spp, Limicolaria martensis etc. While some like Helix aspersa, Helix aperta, Helix lucorum, Helix pomatia, Helix hortensis etc. are European breeds. Archachatina marginata is however our focus in this handbook, being one of the commonest. It has the biggest size, even as the adult weighs between 300 -700g. The fleshy part is dark brown in colour and the shell is wider at the posterior end. This handbook is written in such a manner that one can apply the principles without any expert's supervision. It is a valuable resource for snail farmers desiring better results as well as students and researchers working with snails.
