Roosevelt Raceway Where It All Began

Roosevelt Raceway: Where It All Began was written to rekindle the exhilarating times that took place at one of the best harness racetracks in the nation. The story begins in the forties with a man named George Morton Levy, a New York attorney who represented some of the most colorful people in America (Lucky Luciano, Frank Costello, and Frank Erickson). Levy, who is called The Father of Modern day Harness Racing had a vision and made it a reality when he converted a newly built auto racetrack located in Westbury, Long Island, into a multi-million-dollar legacy that would be called Roosevelt Raceway. It was this track that introduced the innovation that catapulted harness racing into a modern era of success by introducing the mobile starting gate, profoundly improving and changing the sport forever. The first part of the book tells of the life and times of George Morton Levy and his incomparable racetrack. It tells about the rise and fall of Roosevelt Raceway, the scandals that took place there, and the deception and disappointment when the track was sold and demolished. The latter part of the book consists of stories, top drivers, world-class horses, famous races, and original photos that made Roosevelt Raceway "the World Capital of Harness Racing."
