Abused, thrown into a dumpster, and left to die because of a wonky eye, Max, our pug, just wanted a forever home.

When my wife, Diane, and I first met him, we weren't ready for another dog, but we sensed his desperation and decided to take him home.

We soon discovered Max was a special creature. Gentle, affectionate, and hilariously funny, Max emanated love and brought happiness to everyone he met.

The truth was we needed him more than he ever needed us.

How did two people who had almost no experience with dogs wind up rescuing six pugs? And how did a traumatized little puppy become the central figure in our home and ultimately change our lives?
