Energy is one of the most valuable resources. It is maintaining and enhancing our way of life, giving us light, warmth, freedom to move, and a lot more. But, the consumption of non-renewable energy resources is bearing major problems affecting our environment and our future life. Scientist worldwide agree on the relation between the consumption of non-renewable energy and climate change as well as on the fact that we are running out of non-renewable energy resources. At political level a number of nations including New Zealand have set a focus on energy policy to create a sustainable energy system. The most important step in this system is the implementation of national strategies at local level. This book is providing concepts for creating a local sustainable energy system taking the Queenstown Lakes District as an example.
