Dynamic Virtual Prototyping for Control Engineering: Concepts, Methods, Applications

Virtual prototypes, or digital mockups, are the foundation of digital engineering and product lifecycle management. While virtual prototyping has been a valuable tool for control system analysis for years, there is a growing interest to designing control systems directly on the basis of virtual prototypes. Closing the gap between control design and virtual prototyping would help to avoid duplication of design models, to improve collaboration between product development processes, to minimize design errors, to facilitate adaptation to product changes, and to shorten time to market. But this is hindered by the information barrier - heterogeneity, complexity, incompatibility and incompleteness of models - between the virtual prototype and the models required for the control system development. This book lays out concepts, identifies methods and tools, and provides application examples for integrating virtual prototyping and control system development. The intended readers are system designers and integrators, control engineers, computer-aided engineering experts, virtual prototyping systems users and producers.
