The Implementation of the Students Discipline Policy
Francis Kule
Schools are supposed to be safe and conducive for learning to take place. In order for this to take place there has to be serious and effective implementation of the student discipline policy. The discipline of students and how the policy governing it should be implemented is a major concern of teachers, administrators and education policy makers. Having a student discipline policy alone is not enough to having safe and conducive learning environment. How it is implemented makes the difference between safe schools and those affected by student problem behavior. One of the major concerns of administrators and teachers at the beginning of each school year and term is how discipline will be maintained on both the school-wide level and inside the classroom so that learning effectively takes place. The major concern of schools both private and public in my country Uganda these days is how to effectively implement student discipline policy so as to avoid student strikes and their accompanying violence and destruction of school property. Student violence and problem behavior should be a concern of all schools and a well implemented student discipline policy can help to minimize them.
