Teaching methodology plays a very important role in language learning, and critical teaching, as a method which promotes learners? cognitive ability, has been receiving an increasing attention from researchers in the last two decades. The focus of the present study is to investigate the effect of critical teaching on learners? reading comprehension improvement in an EFL context. This study is adapting the infusion approach to the critical thinking theory. This approach is based on the integration of teaching critical thinking skills into the subject-specific classes (in this case English classes). The findings of the study suggest that critical teaching has a positive effect on both learners? reading comprehension ability and their motivation. The findings are useful to both teachers and learners and could be implemented in teacher training courses, self-learning software, or in computer assisted language learning (CALL).
