Basic Training for Flight Information Centres: Applying Best Practices in Adult Education
Garth Wigle
Canada's air navigation service provider has embarked on a project to re-align the delivery of flight information services to the aviation community. As a result of this project, new offices known as flight information centres have been designed and are being implemented. These offices are staffed by flight service specialists who will need training to provide the appropriate services at the correct levels. The research question asked in this paper is: "How can current best practices in adult education enhance the basic training of flight service specialists"? A review of the current state of training and the recent research into adult learning has attempted to answer this question. To review the current state of training, recent graduates and instructors were interviewed for their perspectives on the state of training and what should be improved.
