Stimulus Bandwidth Effects on New Word Learning in 6-7yr Old Children: a Simulation Study of Hearing Aid Output

the most recent hearing aids provide a bandwidth of around 5kHz. most of the major hearing aid companies promise a frequency bandwidth up to 10kHz, but it has not been clear what is the minimum bandwidth required for a hearing impaired individual to perceive all the sounds in a language. the affricates and fricates are sounds which are usually at the higher end of the speech banana in a language and these are the one's which may cause a lot of problem in the perception of speech when the hearing aid bandwidth is less than the required for adequate perception. the present study aimed at finding the effect of various bandwidths on learning of new words among 6-7year old children.
