Policies and Legislations for Earthquake Mitigation Planning: a Case-study of Dhaka

Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh, experiences urban flooding for several times in a single year and it is believed to be waiting for a devastating earthquake at any time now. As a potential risk, the causes and impacts of earthquake has to be realized and it should have such kind of local and national policies and legislations for related all issues, which can reduce the risk of earthquake in an integrated way. So, the presently available policies and legislations for built environment should be reviewed and assessed to know their status and this research is solely intended to do that task. This study explores the components of the city which are related with the risk of earthquake. Through a review on secondary sources, it makes the authorities of development and planning aware about the potential risk of Earthquake for Dhaka.
