Citrus is a common term and genus of flowering plants under the family Rutaceae. The Citrus macroptera Mont. Var. annamensis known as Melanesian papeda or Annam papeda in English and in Bengale (locally) called Satkara. It is a minor and semi wild fruit crops and traditionally used in culinary and tasty pickle preparation. Satkara is a semi wild species and used by local tribes of Assam of India for medicinal purpose and in cooking. In Bangladesh, both green and mature (yellow) fruits are used in cooking for flavoring curry, pulses and vegetables and also for pickle preparation. Fruits are also dried for preservation and used in culinary during off seasons. Generally the juice is not used directly like other citrus fruits due to their high acidic taste but juice is rich of Vit-C, citric acids and valuable micronutrients. From the ethno botanical knowledge of the local users suggested that the fruit has a good digesting ability. The Satkara pickle reduce flatulence and increase appetite, enhances digestive power and makes food delicious. The sweet flavor of essential oil of peel is used in perfume industries.
