Johann Casper Weil (1816-1899) was born in Germany and came to America in the mid 1800s. Catherine Armbrust (1837-1913) was born in France and came to Ohio with her parents in 1839. The two were married in 1853 and came to Churchville, Warren County, Iowa in 1855. Their son, Joseph Mathias Weil (1854-1911), born in Ohio, came with his parents to Warren County, Iowa in 1855. He married Mary Miller (1859-1930) in 1881. Their son, John Nicholas Weil (1894-1977) was born at Waukee, Iowa and married Garolyn Elizabeth Grace (1894-1962) from Emmetsburg, Iowa, in 1919. Thus began generations of memories at the farm near Waukee. This cookbook is a compilation of treasured family recipes, many passed down through generations. Some are new recipes introduced by the fifth generation. All have been tested and loved at family dinners. Wander through the recipes and experience the tradition of family cooking in central Iowa.
