Nathaniel Kostar
Raspberry is a short book of poems by poet and lyricist Nathaniel Kostar. Like a raspberry, the poems in this book touch on the sweet, dark and delicate nature of life itself. In his first short collection, Kostar, who comes from a spoken word background and was a graduate of the University of New Orleans MFA writing program, successfully weaves sound and meaning into accessible poems that are delightful to the ear and heart. While these poems function on the page, it is clear the poet has spent some time clutching a microphone. In fact, two of the poems in this short collection are also songs on Kostar's (who goes by the stage name Nate Lost when performing to music) latest album Float Tank, which is available on all music streaming platforms. For those interested in the state of contemporary American lyric poetry and where it might go from here, Raspberry is a definitely worth a read.
