The Missing Alpha

I tilted my head and listened intently. All of a sudden the forest came to life in my ears. I heard the wind rustling each leaf. The twitter of night birds and the footfalls of the intruder. Honing in on that, I canceled out all of the other noises. The more I focused, the more I heard. The swish of his clothing against the tree limbs. The way he breathed, so evenly as if trying to steady the rhythm of his heart. Which was beating wildly. He was getting closer. Lifting my nose to the air. I focused on his scent. It took a motive to sort it out from the wild mix of evening fragrances. There were wild fragrant night blooms, sweet and inviting. Then the pungent fungus and mushrooms. I wrinkled my nose. And of course the decaying leaves and vegetation that had long ago fallen to the forest floor. And then I caught it. It was an intoxicating mix of leather, the faintest woodsy smelling musk and man. It was attractive. And it was growing stronger. I waited patiently. I decided to let the intruder make the first move. Swinging my legs back and forth out over the valley I leaned back on my hands. I wanted to be ready to roll away from the edge at a moments notice. The footfalls were nearly there. If he wanted to attack, he was going to have to leave the cover of the forest. My eyes closed, I relied on my other senses. The sound of his footsteps had changed. He was on the rock with me. This would be fun. I smiled up to the moon. Ulf decided he had to see her. Originally he'd just planned on watching her. However seeing her there. Her face tilted to the moon. Her body so relaxed. She looked like the Moon Goddess herself. He had to speak with her. He wasn't sure what he would say, but he'd figure it out. He reached a hand towards her shoulder. And that was his first mistake. No sooner than he touched her, she flipped her legs up and had his neck in a scissor lock between her thighs. She executed it so quickly and with so much force she'd pushed him backwards. He landed on his back with her derrière in his face. Her ankles interlocked behind his head. He felt a sharp nick at either side of his ribs. Yep, she still carried her daggers."Tell me who you are and what you want?" She hissed at him. Her eyes watching him over her shoulder.
