The Quest for Friendship

You Weren't Meant to Walk Alone. For years I've been researching the common thread between failure and friendlessness. I've noticed that there are many people who talk about community, but honestly lack any true semblance of the like in their personal lives. Heather and I have received hundreds of prayer requests over the years from women who simply ask, "Pray that God would send me a friend." My spirit prays and my heart breaks. However, men especially worry me. For years now I have made it my practice to ask men in counseling and casual conversation, "Tell me about your friendships, who are your closest friends?" Nearly without fail I hear, "What do you mean?" This stalling technique sets me up to ask, "Who do you have in your life that you can talk to about anything? Who is a true and real friend who opens up to you about his life and can help you think through yours? Can you name two or three men like that in your life?"
