Trauma and abuse don't somehow get better in the shrouds of suppression and secrecy. Nor can we help each other overcome in the most challenging experiences we as humans face, if we don't open up our experiences and share with each other. I can't express how thankful I am for each and every person who has opened to me directly and personally, or through various media, to share their journeys and how they made it through bewilderingly painful times. This book is being written (I feel it will forever be in progress) to work through such bewildering pain. Married for over 25 years, with a heart full of love to God, loyalty to my husband, and unspeakable care for my children (that every parent hopefully knows), I couldn't make sense of the dismantling of my nuclear family and the seeming impotence of those I thought could fight with my husband and me through whatever we might face. I never thought he and I would be alone in battling his genetic blood disease, but even further from my imagination was that I would be forced away from him, as not only his blood disease wreaked havoc, but even worse, as addiction overpowered the husband I once knew and undermined nearly every precious nuance and trust I was accustomed to in my marriage. I write this book to work through the, at times, crippling grief, but also to let every reader know that if you relate to my story at all, you are not alone. I write with only love toward every player in "The Games" - and I pray that I and every reader would let the Umpire alone call the plays, which I believe He is doing and will always do.
