Frank Zappa | Cheaper Than Cheep
Frank Zappa's long-lost 1974 television special, Cheaper Than Cheep, is finally seeing the light of day after 50 years in the vault. Filmed on June 21, 1974, at The Mothers of Invention's private rehearsal hall on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, this intimate performance was Zappa's DIY attempt to create a television special, complete with psychedelic lighting and stage setup. However, technical issues with audio and video synchronization led to the project's shelving. Until now.
Restored from the original vault audio and videotape masters, Cheaper Than Cheep offers a two-hour glimpse into Zappa's world, featuring the 1974 Mothers lineup: Frank Zappa (lead guitar, vocals), Jeff Simmons (rhythm guitar, vocals), Napoleon Murphy Brock (flute, tenor saxophone, vocals), George Duke (keyboards, synthesizer, vocals), Bruce Fowler (trombone, dancer), Tom Fowler (bass guitar), Ralph Humphrey (drums), Chester Thompson (drums), and Ruth Underwood (percussion).
Frank Zappa's catalogue of music is unique and extensive to a degree rarely seen before. Check out our selection of Frank Zappa albums here.
