Editors | Surface, Echo and Sound
Editors return with their eighth studio album, Surface, Echo & Sound, set for release on 30 October 2026.
Looking back through Editors' catalogue, one thing stands out: the band have never stayed in the same place for long or tried to make the same record twice. The brooding post-punk of their 2005 Mercury Prize-nominated debut The Back Room was followed by the soaring rock of An End Has A Start two years later. In 2009, In This Light And On This Evening ventured into nocturnal synthscapes inspired by Kraftwerk and David Bowie's Berlin trilogy, before The Weight Of Your Love returned to a more organic, darkly atmospheric sound.
While In Dream (2015) found a balance between analogue and electronic elements, the band's collaboration with Blanck Mass, which began on Violence (2018), reached its pulsating peak on EBM, released in 2022.
With Surface, Echo & Sound, however, Editors have arrived somewhere entirely new. After three albums created primarily as studio-based projects, the band have returned to a more natural, collaborative approach that echoes their earliest days, sitting together in a rehearsal room in Stafford and developing songs face to face.
