Mississippi Masala - Criterion Collection

Denzel Washington and Sarita Choudhury star in this romantic drama directed by Mira Nair. An Indian family, one of many forced out of Uganda in 1972 by dictator Idi Amin, settles in Greenwood, Mississippi. Years later, new racial problems surface between the Indian immigrants and the local community.

This tension comes to a head when Mina (Choudhury), the daughter of the family, falls in love with Demetrius (Washington), an African American carpet cleaner. Roshan Seth and Sharmila Tagore also star.
